Area activities
Ankaran lies on the southern slope Milje Peninsula, at the very beginning of the Slovenian part of the Istrian coast, not far from the border with Italy. One of the most beautiful seaside villages in Slovenia is completely protected from the north wind. Because of its natural location the area of Ankaran was inhabited since Roman times. Ancient name for this area was Ultra (ital. Oltra - Oltre il mare, over the sea). At that place, where is noe healty resort, they encountered a mosaic from the Roman period, which is stored in the Koper Regional Museum. In 1072, the monks from Venice settled here, because the Bishop of Trieste Adalger gave them a church Apolinarija (s. Apollinare part Gasello) from the 10th century. The Benedektian increase the church and built a monastery, which later got the name s. Nicolo d'Oltra. The monks have dealt mainly with olive trees and cultivation of wine. Since these tasks needed help, they began to migrate the adjacent columns from Frurlanija. In 1641, when the plague devastated in Istria, the monks left the place St. Nicholas and the principles of the monastery soon ravage to time, in 1774 was it bought from Koper family Madonizza, which change the monastery into a summer residence.
Attractive sunny location, mild climate and lush Mediterranean vegetation is undoubtedly influenced the development of early tourism in Ankaran. Austrians are precisely built a resort here for their naval officers.
A camp next to Ankaran has long served as one of the most important for the development of the settlement. In addition to space for car-trailers and tents there are also many holiday homes and apartments for rent. Long sandy and rocky beach with three piers and deck, a swimming pool complex (indoor and outdoor) with sauna and fitness room, water slides, shops, stalls, mini-golf course, tennis courts and volleyball courts, restaurants and bars overlooking the sea and the nature of a typical Istrian attracted many tourists from Slovenia and neighboring countries. There are also many clubs, for example sports clubs kayak canoe club-Adria and Tennis Club.
Less than one kilometer east is a recreation center Katarina multiple with courts for volleyball and football, sandy beach (with a frisbee competition) and tidy walkway. Here is a small bay with berths for boats of local people.
On west, in part called Valdoltra, is a natural resort with a long beach, which continues even further to the west to thick ness. In Valdoltra is a kayak-canoe club, harbor and lower bay for sailing and fishing boats. Here is also the European known Orthopaedic Hospital Valdoltra.
In the far west (at end of Ankaran Peninsula) is place called the Debeli rtič, it lies close to the Italian border. Baths beaches can be divided into three parts: the Youth Health Debeli rtič, sandy wilde beach and orderly concrete beach.
Footpaths
In addition to the long beaches in the area Ankaran there are many roads that connect the individual hamlets. One of the (lesser known) features Ankaran also Ressel's Grove, which is located nearby the hill Jurjev. In this grove are presented typical tree species of oak forests and many other interesting species of plants. It's named after the famous inventor of the propeller Ressel Joseph, who lived in Trieste. He should be walking around here and personally planted some oak trees that are now part of Ankaran Ressel's grove.
There is also known shells cemetery and salt meadow. Special interest is for an unique experience, which offers the organized trail through the salt meadow. The salt meadow vegetation is interesting, special the »pozedonija«, and other endangered plants of the Mediterranean region. Hill dune was formed in 1990 when the Port of Koper was dredging port-side pier, silt from the seabed at nearby location, next to the estuary Rižane in the Adriatic Sea. From piles of mud rain has washed mud gradually, and there stay only calcareous shells of molluscs.
At the end of the tourist village Ankaran flows into the sea a stream called Selvadego. To there you can come across a natural beach, where is the lower berth, too.
Special offer
Massage is undoubtedly one of the best ways to relax. Just to lie down comfortably, feel thestroking movements all over your body, and there is also a nice feeling that someone cares for us. Most people decide for massage only, if something began to hurt them, when their back is too tense, when they have unbearable headaches from the neck to the top of the head, or if they have several pains in the muscles. But we afford a massage more often and just like that, without any reason, just for us and for our welfare. If you do not need a medical massage, it is best if your partner makes you a massage. Because not only you will enjoy it, the relaxing activities will also feel in the hands the one who is massaging you. During the massage you can also change places.
